Sprawling Upper East Side Mansion Returns for $38.5M

Another day, another absurdly expensive Upper East Side townhouse. Located at 10 East 75th Street, this one is quite a treat. It measures 13,000 square feet over seven levels (yes, there is an elevator) and features a dramatic central staircase, two-level rooftop deck, six bedrooms, and 12 bathrooms. The limestone house is nearly 100 years old, but a three-year renovation by architect Peter Pennoyer and designed Victoria Hagan completely remade the interior. It first hit the market more than three years ago, but the owners, who paid $8.25 million for the house back in 2002, never found a buyer before divorcing. As part of the divorce settlement, Alison Schneider, daughter of the last Bear Stearns CEO (one of the biggest losers of the 2008 crash), bought the house from her former husband for $14 million. She's now hoping for a $25 million payday; the mansion just returned to the market for a whopping $38.5 million.
