A tipster has pointed out to us that two adjacent buildings on West 4th Street have been purchased by the same buyer, who has plans to turn them into one enormous mansion designed by starchitect Annabelle Selldorf. The first building, 282 West 4th Street, which contains seven units, was purchased last May for $20 million. The second, a four-unit townhouse at 280 West 4th Street, was purchased in June for $12.5 million. (The buyer of both was "Eleventh And Fourth Property LLC.") Selldorf will present plans for the conversion to the Landmarks Commission the Tuesday after next, September 8 (pdf). Department of Buildings plans filed in June confirm that the converted structure will be a single-family residence, and a rendering attached to the Landmarks presentation confirms that it will be gigantic.
