The Seaport District is making good on its promise to up its cool factor, thanks to several new shopping additions within the last two years and a Smorgasburg outpost that's open seven days a week. And the micro-neighborhood isn't done yet — there's plans to add a dine-in movie theater, and even more shopping on the way. Below, check out the places you shouldn't miss on your next visit.

Northern Grade

What started as a roving pop-up market is now a permanent store, and it has brands you wouldn't typically find in New York City. That includes handmade goods from Merchant Leather and Mallory Shelter Jewelry, a label that specializes in delicate, layering pieces. There's also an in-store bar for events.

The space recently featured a "Design Market" curated by Northern Grade owner Mark McMillan.

This store, part of the South Street Seaport Museum, is one of the oldest in New York City. It still cranks out magnificent stationery with authentic 19th-century letter-printing equipment, in case you're in the market for classic wedding invitations.

This isn't your typical pet supply shop. The Salty Paw specializes in pooch apparel from NYC-based labels like Sam & Tasha, Yarn Dog, Chilly Dog, plus the in-house Black Dog Farms.

Owner Erin Feniger hand-paints all of the vintage denim sold in this store herself, including the pair that Oprah Winfrey wore on the cover of April 2015 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. Proceeds from the store's sales benefit New York Presbyterian Hospital.
