The Best Stores for Denim Shopping

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There are few items of clothing more versatile than a pair of jeans, since there are seemingly infinite varieties of washes, fits, and hues to choose from. A solid black pair of skinnies paired with a blazer can pass for acceptable workwear in several offices, while a stone-washed style with rips all along the front are de rigeur in street style these days.

In other words, having an entire dresser drawer dedicated to denim is nothing short of a necessity.

And luckily, New York City isn't short on places to shop for jeans for all occasions, whether you're looking for high-waisted bell bottoms with a little stretch or are experimenting with Japanese selvedge. Below, find 25 of the best stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn to hit up for jeans, mapped out for your convenience below. Spoiler alert: You're going to be spending a lot of time in Soho if you're updating your denim collection.
