The 10 Best Items to Shop at This Week's DVF Sample Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Update: As of Friday morning, true samples have been restocked and everything except samples is an additional 30% off. Original sale prices are reflected below and in the gallery above.

The sample sale New Yorkers thought they would never see again returned to 260 Fifth Avenue today for five days of dress shopping at up to 75% off. We stopped by the Diane von Furstenberg sale's VIP hours this morning to get the scoop just before the designer herself stopped by — we spotted her hunter green Bentley parked outside right before the doors opened to the public, and the hundred-plus shoppers lined up outside got a glimpse of her as she quickly ducked in and out.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, dresses make up the majority of the sale's merchandise, both of the wrap ($125), and non-wrap variety ($100). At first glance, a lot of the dresses seemed to be from much, much older collections. You'll have a better time scouting the floor-sweeping gowns ($150) located toward the back along the left side of the venue. There, we found long wrap dresses, embellished gowns, and breezy caftans.

Outside of dresses, we saw jumpsuits for $100; skirts, tops, and pants for $50; jackets for $100; and anything suede, fur, or leather goes for $250. We didn't see many of the more expensive coats, save for a reversible jacquard and fur reversible style in a variety of sizes.

As for accessories, there are a ton, including bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces ($30), iPhone cases and books ($5), a fur key fob ($5), cosmetic cases ($25), small travel accessories like pouches ($25 to $40), gloves ($25), hats ($25), scarves ($40), tights ($5), sunglasses ($40), clutches ($75), handbags ($75 to $100), and shoes ($40). Oh, and there were bins of bathing suits along the back wall of the sale. Click through the gallery above to see 10 standout pieces from the sale.

If you have plans to head over during your lunch break or after work, brace yourself for a decent-sized line. Watch the video below to see just what we mean by "decent-sized" and get our first impressions. And below that, check out the Dealfeed with the rest of the sale's logistics.

A previous version of this story misstated the price of the suede wrap dress and the leather skirt. They are both $250.
