The Dannijo Sisters Are Obsessed with Frayed Denim, Too

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

All of New York is obsessed with frayed denim. And Danielle and Jodie Snyder, the sisters behind Dannijo, are no exception.

“Right now, we’re really into vintage Levi’s cut into jean shorts,” Jodie told Racked last night at Cointreau’s The Art of Soirée party (which the girls collaborated on and co-hosted). “If you buy jeans and turn them into shorts, they’re better for your body type.”

Danielle elaborated on how to get the look at home: “With an old pair of jeans, Jodie and I love to take a scissor to them and you open up the scissor — try them on obviously, you can go shorter but you can’t go longer — and you shred the bottom of them. They just get better with age."

“We’re really big vintage shoppers,” Jodie continued, describing their latest shopping trip. “We just curated a vintage show called A Current Affair in Brooklyn and we walked out with a big bag of goodies. We love vintage because you never know what you’re going to find — you get emotionally connected to pieces. We found a lot of Victorian white lace dresses that we’re going to live in this summer."

From jean shorts to Victorian white lace dresses? We’re liking the contrast.
