The Gilt City Warehouse Sale Comes to Chelsea Next Month

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Here's a bright spot on this rainy Monday morning: The Gilt City Warehouse sale returns on Friday, April 8th — at least if you're purchasing the press pass option, which is one of several varieties of tickets for the shopping event available right now on its website.

That's the most expensive ticket at $25, and it's already sold out. It gives shoppers access to the FastPass line (if you aren't wearing a coat and only carrying a small bag), complimentary coat check, a free glass of La Marca Prosecco, and light snacks to power you through the sale's selection of handbags, shoes, and apparel from your favorite designers up to 80% off retail prices.

The last time we shopped this sale, we found the shoes and handbags left a bit to be desired. We were disappointed to find that most of the footwear was from lower-end brands like Kelsi Dagger or Sam Edelman, with very few upmarket options for those wearing a 38.5 and up. In this area, we spotted one pair of Helmut Lang ankle boots that, while lovely, felt pricey at $209, but otherwise nothing of particular interest.

As for handbags, we saw a few really beautiful bags, including a super-functional Balenciaga top handle ($949) and a classic beige Miu Miu ($802), but€” these discounts were nowhere near the advertised 80% off, and there were just a few tables displaying them.

This time around, Gilt City is advertising on-trend must-haves from brands like Prada, Valentino, Temperley London, Maje, Sandro, Derek Lam, Helmut Lang, Lanvin. and Chloé. For guys, they're saying that the likes of Tom Ford, Paul Smith, John Varvatos, and Gant will be available.

You can be sure that we'll report back after checking things out for ourselves. Purchase your tickets here and don't forget that you'll need your printed voucher for entry.
