The Shops at Turnstyle Aim to Make Commuting Fun

The shops in Columbus Circle's cavernous subway station that we've been hearing about for more than two years have finally debuted, and Turnstyle does a good job at appealing to both the native New Yorkers who commute through here on a daily basis and the tourists filtering through on their way to Central Park — a daily total of 90,000, on average.

Residents who want to display their love in a more subtle way will appreciate local jewelry designer Elma Blint's striking yet subtle selection of rings, earrings, and necklaces; Fab.com's emerging designers like One Five Six's cat rings and LOL Emoji portable phone chargers; Project No. 8's attempt at a bright and airy space; and the Arth hat shop that's full of turbans and straw hats.

Tourists will definitely be drawn to Studio Manhattan's NYC-centric art block portraits and totes; R. Nichols's New York candle and luggage tags with taxi cabs on them; and Marc Tetro's fun plastic pouches. And both groups can appreciate The New Stand, a reimagined versions of the classic newsstand huts still hanging around today.
