Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's Weddings Week on Racked, so we took a trip down to New York City's Marriage Bureau to interview happy couples. We're spotlighting one stylish duo every day this week.

For Estil and Karena, only a few weeks lapsed between the time they got engaged and the early afternoon of Friday, June 3, when they entered Manhattan's Marriage Bureau to start their lives as a married couple. "We waste no time," the bride explains with a laugh.

Their progression from friendship to romance, however, took quite a bit longer. The two originally met at a Yankees game — Estil admits to having broken the ice — and hit it off. But not long after, Estil headed off to boot camp for the Coast Guard.

"We didn't communicate as often, but we always texted back and forth," he says.

"We stayed friends for a year and a half," Karena adds.

When Estil went off to Texas for training, they started talking every day, sending texts and pictures to one another. At its conclusion he returned to New York, and they decided to see where a relationship might lead. That was a year ago.

Because of Estil's work in the Coast Guard, he and Karena figured that sooner rather than later would be best for a wedding.

"I might be stationed somewhere else, so we wanted to get married before that and enjoy the moment with our family," he says. "This will be a small, private event. We brought our closest family members and then we'll have a bigger wedding next year."

For this go-round, Karena opted for the simplest bridal shopping route: Bloomingdales.com. "I ordered everything online: my veil online, my shoes online, and my dress," she says. Well, not everything. "I bought the earrings in person."
