Scoop NYC Is Closing Every Store

After 20 years in business, Scoop NYC is done. The high-end boutique has shuttered its Soho flagship and started liquidating its remaining locations, WWD is reporting. In New York, that leaves Brookfield Place in the Financial District, the Meatpacking District, and on the Upper East Side.

The retailer is considered a mainstay in the city, helping to launch brands like Rag & Bone and Alice + Olivia and usher in the blueprint for boutique shopping.

Earlier this year when we checked out the retailer's closet clean-up sale, we found it in rare form. Higher-end brands were discounted along with the merchandise from the store's in-house label, which maybe spoke to the bigger issue the company faced: rising rents simply were not covering the cost of maintaining the business. "They needed scale, not less units," a source told the fashion paper. "That's really the issue and that became evident."

Right now, everything in store and online is 10% off, save for hats and boots at 30% off, according to a store employee at the Upper East Side location. Closing dates have not been set — the doors will close whenever "everything is sold out."

Update: The New York Times reported on May 18th that stores will close in July.
