Tiny Cupcake Makers Now Make Tiny Macarons, Too

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

One would think that "the bigger, the better" makes all the sense in the world when it comes to dessert, but Baked by Melissa proved that wrong with the successful sales of tiny, sometimes tie-dyed cupcakes for a dollar a pop. And the next dessert to get the company's miniaturization treatment is macarons, which are now available at all New York City locations (including the gluten-free one).

Like the cupcakes, the petite French treat will also sell for $1 —or less per piece if you're buying in bulk — and will initially be available in six flavors: Cookie Dough, Double Chocolate, Red Velvet, Salted Caramel, Snickerdoodle, and Sugar Cookie. Compare that to some of the fancier places around the city, where individual macarons can go for four bucks.

No word yet on whether the dessert spot will be participating in Macaron Day this year, or whether it'll combine its two offerings anytime soon.
