Menswear boutique Carson Street started 2016 on a high note, but it won't get to close out the year that way — or at all. WWD reports today that the three-year-old store will shut its doors for good on June 30th, following the news that co-founder Brian Trunzo was leaving the brand effective Sunday, May 1st.

Carson Street got its start as Carson Street Clothiers on Crosby Street in 2013, when Trunzo and co-founder Matt Breen left their corporate jobs to get into the retail business. "I didn't know anything having to do with retail, fashion, men's fashion, design or anything," Trunzo told Racked shortly after the opening. "For me, it was just a passion to learn." In January of this year, they vacated that space for a much bigger one on the southern end of Greene Street.

At the same time, they announced the launch of Deveaux, a menswear line designed with Patrick Doss that was totally separate from the boutique but would have been carried here when it hit shelves. It made its debut at New York Fashion's Week: Men's back in February; in his departure from Carson Street, Trunzo also severed ties with Deveaux.

Breen issued a statement this afternoon, which laid out his plans to continue with Deveaux. It reads in part:

"We approached the business from a 'fan-first perspective,' which fueled our desire to continuously bring new product to the market, find and cultivate new brands and relationships, and keep Carson Street interesting to its loyal, amazing customers.
"It is therefore with an extremely heavy heart that I announce the closure of Carson Street. After three rewarding years, we will close the doors on June 30th, 2016...
"I believe the best way that I can make a difference in this industry, as well as honor our loyal customers, is to continue putting forth a vision of how I believe men should approach luxury and designer clothing...I am thrilled to now have more time to thoughtfully consider and design Deveaux."

Be on the lookout for a closing sale in the coming weeks.
