A few minutes before the James Perse sample sale preview began yesterday evening, a small line had formed outside of 150 Greene Street with customers who wanted first dibs on the West Coast brand's soft tee-shirts, sweats, and dresses at prices that are up to 75% off the original.
We walked into 260 Sample Sale's new downtown space at 150 Greene Street — a bit smaller than Wooster Street, but not detrimentally so — to find a familiar scene of cotton basics in muted hues, with a couple pops of color on the tee shirt and tank top racks. Shoppers beelined to the back corner for a selection of home goods like blankets and sheets that was already pretty thin to begin with, so don't be surprised if those are already gone by the time you get there.
Otherwise, you'll see a similar spread to seasons past, with the same prices as last year: $20 for tank tops, $30 for short-sleeved tee shirts, $40 for long-sleeved tee shirts, $50 for zip-up sweatshirts, $55 for shorts, $60 for slim-fitting cargo pants, and $70 for dresses, and so on — check out the gallery above for the full price lists for men and women.
Your best bets here are the tee shirts, which are available in a variety of sizes, and the maxi dresses that can easily be dressed up with jewelry and heels or dressed down as a beach cover-up with a pair of sandals (like the Birkenstocks or Apiece Apart styles available here). A simply beautiful gray jumpsuit was also in the mix here. Skip over the collection sweaters, which are overpriced at $150 and generally not that special.
