Carson Street Clothiers' Founders Are Launching a Label That's Separate From the Store

The founders behind Carson Street Clothiers are moving beyond just selling men's apparel and accessories to making their own. WWD is reporting that Brian Trunzo and Matt Breen, along with Patrick Doss, will launch their own menswear line dubbed Deveaux during New York Fashion Week: Men's in February.

"The idea was always to do our own line," Breen told the paper. "It's obviously something that we are passionate about. More so than being retailers, we are passionate about creating." They've got a little bit of practice in creating clothing: Carson Street has its own private label.

Deveaux, named after the 1920s Philadelphia politician that Breen's grandfather chauffeured, will debut with 150 pieces, including a luxury assortment of ready-to-wear, sportswear, and tailored items made mostly in the US, for the fall/winter 2016 season. The line was inspired by the novel-slash-HBO series The Leftovers and a Pablo Picasso painting, "The Studio La Californie." Prices will range from $150 for a t-shirt to $4,995 for shearling coats, and Breen told the paper to look for it in specialty boutiques and department stores, along with Carson Street.

"The store won't carry every single solitary piece, but you will probably find a larger percentage of the line here than other stores," he said.

The timing for the label's launch speaks to a growing trend in retail: catering to a specific male clientele. Recent examples include Saks Fifth Avenue launching a men's-only shop in Brookfield Place and New York Fashion Week: Men's shifting up its start date to ensure that designers get all of the attention they deserve.
