Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Last Thursday, Prince Roger Nelson unexpectedly passed away at the age of 57 at his home outside of Minneapolis. Almost immediately, tributes popped up all over the city honoring the fashion icon, spanning from dance parties to Purple Rain screenings.

But what does one wear to a Prince tribute (besides a vintage concert tee)? We asked Kathleen McDonnell of Nomad Vintage and Lexi Oliveri of Antoinette to give us a few suggestions on creating the perfect Prince-inspired outfit using items from their vintage stores below.

In the photo above, McDonnell opted to embody Prince's fearless style in matching Vivienne Westwood Red Label striped bustier ($345) and pants ($195); a Victorian ruffled blouse ($185), a purple velvet-embroidered jacket ($245), Norma Kamali lucite and suede winged shoes ($225), and Algy B. silver enamel "bird on a perch" earrings ($495).

Her second look below is just as daring and texture-happy, pairing a knit and chain sweater top ($550) with a Vivienne Westwood Red Label skirt ($225) and Betsey Johnson stirrup pants ($125), plus Vivienne Westwood platforms ($650), an Algy B necklace ($195) and a printed silk caftan draped over the arms (in purple, of course).

One quick easy way to add a little Prince-esque flavor is with a top with a ruffled sleeve. Over at Antoinette, Oliveri has several options in stock— we're especially fond of the white crochet bodysuit ($100) and the sheer ruffled blouse ($80), shown below:

All of the items mentioned here are available at their respective stores, and definitely worth a look if you want to want to get a little more creative than just wearing something purple. After all, dearly beloved: we are gathered here today to celebrate this person called Prince. Let's go crazy.
