St. Mark's Bookshop Will Close the Same Day as Patricia Field, Trash & Vaudeville

St. Mark's Bookshop/Facebook

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

February 28th will not be a great day in the East Village. In addition to Oscar Sunday being the last day that Trash & Vaudeville will be open on St. Mark's Place — remember, the legendary shop pushed up its farewell day from Monday, ahead of its move to East Seventh Street — and the final day of business for Patricia Field, it's also the last day of St. Mark's Bookshop as we know it.

Bedford + Bowery noted the closure announcement on the indie shop's Facebook page:

We will be closing for good Sunday, February 28, 2016. Thank you for your many years of patronage.

Unfortunately, there's not much left to browse in these last days, since owner Bob Contant initiated a cash-only half-off sale earlier this month. The local blog says that the business is currently about $100,000 in debt.

Be sure to make your way to all three neighborhood stalwarts this weekend for one last look — but if you want to get nostalgic now, start reading the comments on the above post.
