New Year's Resolutions of NYC Store Owners and Designers for 2016

As the end of 2015 approaches and 2016 sits on the horizon, we've tapped a handful of reputable fashion friends to weigh in on this year's greatest hits (and misses) — it's the Year in Racked. This time, we asked what they hope to achieve in the new year.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Kay Lee, owner, Otte NY: "My New Year's resolutions are to pursue happiness, sleep well, and truly invest time in myself."

Kai Avent-deLeon, owner, Sincerely, Tommy: "I don't make resolutions solely for the New Year — if there's something I want to achieve then I just do it, no matter what time of the year. Why set limitations?"

Shira Suveyke, co-president and chief merchant, The Outnet: "Travel and home are my two loves after fashion. My resolution next year is to take extra time to vacation and explore. And when I'm at home, to enjoy my surroundings — and finally get to the interiors projects that I've been putting off!"

Karen Lord, Pilates instructor and owner, Karen Lord Pilates Movement: "I've put so much time, love, and work into my studio this year — in 2016, my goal is to take what we've built here and use it as a way to bring the surrounding community together. And to spend more time with my friends. There's so much I want to do, see, create this year ... I'm lucky my friends like to visit me at the studio. I resolve to work harder, love stronger, and to be even more grateful — oh, and to give myself a break sometimes."

Jessica Schiffer, senior online editor, V Magazine: "Stop being a jackass to myself (read: less critical); say yes to more things; and so on."

Cynthia Sakai, designer, Vita Fede: "My New Year's resolution is to trust my gut and act on my intuition more often."

Desiree Verdejo, owner, Vivrant Beauty: "It's not quite a New Year's resolution, but after stuffing myself with rich foods and plenty of cocktails since Thanksgiving, I will definitely have my version of a detox in January, which involves no alcohol, no dairy, low sugar, and lots of sweat."

Whitney Pozgay, fashion designer, Whit: "This year, I'm looking to focus on my health — not only exercise, but also finding a better balance between work and spending time with family and friends. I'm also hoping to learn something new. I'm thinking skateboarding or French."

Amy Yee, owner, Maeven Vintage: "I love a year-end marker, but truthfully, I make resolutions to myself all the time because things can always be done better. At the top of that list are pursuing the things that bring me joy and more collaboration."

Rebecca Perkins, makeup artist and owner, Rouge: "Everyone says this, but I will exercise in 2016."
