Wild West Brooklyn Brings Festival Flair to Williamsburg

Lingerie and swimwear brand Daisy & Elizabeth might be based in Brooklyn, but its aesthetic is more cowgirl than hipster. So to coincide with the debut of its spring 2016 collection, designers Daisy Hartmann and Elizabeth NeSmith are bringing touches of country, rock-n-roll, and free spirit to Williamsburg with their first concept shop, Wild West Brooklyn.

We found a selection of Western wear and vintage-inspired Americana that's nearly all from women designers, including jewelry from Bow & Arrow and the 2Bandits, custom hats from Havstad Hat Co., apparel from Courtshop and Midnight Rider, and boots from PSKaufman.

"Our things pair well with the other items sold in the store, acting as a one-stop shop for festival season," NeSmith told Racked during a recent visit.

Daisy & Elizabeth pieces start at range from $40 to $450, but you can pick up a pair of Sun & Glory tassel earrings for as little as $28. Cowboy boots begin at $300, and you can even take home the dream catchers hanging on the wall that begin at $200 —” so there is literally something for every shopper.

"We definitely wanted to be in Williamsburg," Hartmann added of the location. "We like being close to [vintage store] Stella Dallas — they have a similar vibe to us."

The space also comes with a backyard that they're planning to use for trunks shows and events, like this Saturday's collaboration launch with Nudie's Rodeo Tailors. The brand is the originator of over-the-top Western flair — it's responsible for dressing Elvis in that gold lamé suit and Elton John for the cover of Rocket Man, in addition to outfitting rock-n-rollers like Cher, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon. Stop by between 12pm and 8pm for live music and drinks, plus the chance to customize your denim with a Nudie decal.

Like many pop-ups, the store is serving as a test for a potential Elizabeth & Daisy brick-and-mortar store in the future. "We're feeling it out, seeing if it works," Hartmann said. "We'll either stay here or find another location." But if street traffic is any indication, it won't be long before the designers have a permanent presence: Situated close to the Bedford and Lorimer train stops, the store has already extended its weekday hours to accommodate the after-work crowd.

Wild West Brooklyn is open until May 15th on Mondays through Saturdays from 11am to 8pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 6pm.
