TRIBECA—The American Apparel at 140 West Broadway is looking a little empty these days, Tribeca Citizen notes — "will it survive the spring?" Considering that the troubled company has put many of its NYC stores on the chopping block as of late, this one may very well be the next to go.
NEW YORK CITY—Mayor Bill de Blasio's office has teamed up with the CFDA and the New York City Economic Development Corp. to provide 100 paid summer internships to local high school and college kids at places like Coach, J. Crew, Kate Spade, DVF, Rachel Comey, and Opening Ceremony, WWD reports. It's part of the city's new Fashion Forward NYC initiative, as well as the city's established Ladders for Leaders program.
MIDTOWN—The New York Times has a short and sweet profile on Kinokuniya, the Japanese bookstore just steps from Bryant Park that, between its book selection and upstairs café, instantly transports you halfway around the world.
EAST VILLAGE—The former home of North Star, one of the city's best tattoo parlors, will soon be home to something very different. EV Grieve recently spotted signage for the Cupcake Market at 74 East 7th Street, which the local blogger adds is just down the street from Butter Lane.

UPPER WEST SIDE—The Real Deal says that Trader Joe's is thisclose to signing for 20,000 feet that spans two levels on Columbus Avenue between 92nd and 93rd streets. That'll relieve congestion at the 72nd Street store, and perhaps put some pressure on the Whole Foods a few blocks north.
