Rodarte's One-Day Only Sale Is Beautiful, But Expensive

Today marks Rodarte's return to New York's sample sale scene with fanciful items from Kate and Laura Mulleavy's spring 2015 and fall 2015 collections including knits, ready-to-wear, gowns, shoes, and Radarte, their tee-shirt line. The sale is taking place at an undisclosed location and the brand requests that you email info@rodarte.net to secure your chance to shop this sale.

We checked out the offerings last night and found them to be beautiful, but quite pricy. Come to gawk at the couture, but don't be surprised if all you get is a cheeky tee-shirt. No photos are allowed inside the venue, so we'll do our best to describe the merchandise as accurately as possible here.

There are no more than seven racks holding the precious cargo. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the selection of sequin pleated dresses ($5,850), a black patent leather jacket ($1,725), blouses with sequin collars ($750), and a leather skirt with a lace insert ($800) from fall 2015. And from spring 2015, we noticed a fisherman-esque jacket with netting and sequins on the arm ($1,800).

Also among the glittery finds were a few pairs of black and white jeans ($250), plus three white bodysuits ($100) that are in need of a cleaning — we noticed makeup around the turtleneck. There weren't more than four sizes in any style, and most sizes ranged from 2 to 6, though couture gowns were available in an 8.

There is definitely more variety in the sale's shoe selection. We saw heels adorned with stars from the fall 2014 collection in black and silver ($350), black over-the-knee lace-up boots ($760, originally $1,745), leather-embossed lizard and burgundy lace-up booties ($488), embossed leather/green python/blue croc leather lace-ups ($680), and patent black and metallic combat boot ($500).

From the spring 2014 collection, we saw loafers in black and silver crocodile ($550), plus crocodile and leather booties ($680). Most shoes were available in sizes 36 to 40. The majority of the shoes come with boxes, if that sort of thing is important to you.

In the center of the room, you'll find a table full of knits like this one ($495) and this one ($590); on average the sweaters, seemed to be priced at $500.

Just past the table full of knits and beyond the racks are boxes on the floor filled with tank tops ($45), tee shirts ($60), sweatshirts ($80), sweatpants ($90), and hoodies ($90). Normally, each of these items would be priced under $200, so the savings aren't huge here.

Because this is a one-day only sale, don't expect much in terms of restocking or slashing prices. We were told that sale associates may put a few things out here or there, but that all of the "fun stuff" was already on on the floor. Don't forget to email info@rodarte.net to get the address.
