Why Is the Tory Burch Soho Flagship Taking Forever to Open?

It's been nearly three years since we first heard about Tory Burch's upcoming Soho flagship, a four-floor townhouse that may or may not include a rooftop garden. A 2015 lawsuit from a neighbor alleging damages halted construction on the Mercer Street project, but now Burch is fighting to get it back on track — hopefully for an opening before the end of the year.

The Real Deal reports that the label has countersued the landlord of 153 Mercer Street (which houses Zadig & Voltaire at street level), calling the original allegations "frivolous" and claiming threats of construction equipments being "forcibly removed" from the site. Burch also claims that the original lawsuit has resulted in "millions of dollars it has and will continue to lose, stemming from lost profits, construction costs and rent obligations."

Neither party commented to TRD as of press time. At this point, it sounds like Dolce & Gabbana will open on the block first, complete with liquor license.
