Rent the Runway's New Jersey Warehouse Store Has Closed

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

While you were sleeping off Prosecco hangovers and making some healthy resolutions over the long weekend, Rent the Runway's warehouse in New Jersey was holding its last sale ever. The blogger behind Le Hoarder alerted us that the Secaucus storage site that also functioned as the country's largest dry cleaner shut down its store portion for good after yesterday evening with an additional 50% off everything that was left.

And what was that, exactly? She found lots of dresses that were more than 90% off retail prices (a Bibhu Mohapatra for $113.50, down from $1,960, and a Mark + James by Badgley Mischka sequin dress for $29.50, from $495) and a few accessories (an Elizabeth and James bucket bag was $57.50, from $545), plus a handful of damaged goods.

She heard that the reason for the closure was so that RTR would have even more space in the 160,000-square foot facility for dress storage, though that hasn't been confirmed by the company. So for now, those looking to own instead of rent — either online or at the Flatiron store — will have to wait for the next sample sale, and if last year is any indication, it may not be far away.
