Fashion Still Rules the Garment District

GARMENT DISTRICT—For a third year in a row, fashion businesses outnumber any others between Fifth and Ninth Avenues, from 34th to 42nd Streets, The Real Deal is reporting. It's surprising news given that most fashion designers are opting out of manufacturing locally. "Originally the whole neighborhood was built by and for the industry," Barbara Blair Randall, president of the Garment District Alliance, said. "The [fashion] industry is not as district-centric as it once was. If you look back 30 years ago, everybody was here. You had to be here."

MIDTOWN—Bergdorf Goodman finally unveiled what's going on under the plywood that covered the 57th Street side of the store, The Shophound discovered. The iconic department store has a fancy entrance at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. No telling how this will affect its pending landmark status.
