New York City’s Most Anticipated Store Openings For the Rest of 2016

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The first six months of 2016 was packed with new store openings in New York City, and the back half of the year looks to be just as fruitful — if not more so. Below, check out the brands and shopping centers that’ll (hopefully) open their doors within the next six months for your spending pleasure.

It’s A Mall World After All

Westfield World Trade Center

The debut of a shopping mall at the World Trade Center — a plan that’s been in talks since before the September 11th attacks — is finally, finally happening this year after a slew of delays both big and small. Downtown commuters can now walk through the structure known as The Oculus and see facades for the 100+ stores to come, including & Other Stories, Dior Cosmetics, John Varvatos, and Apple. A handful of these stores (whose names have not been announced as of press time) are set to open on August 16th. 185 Greenwich St, Financial District

Brands That Are New to NYC

Canada Goose

It only makes sense that the brand you see everywhere is capitalizing on its popularity by opening its first-ever store in a neighborhood that’s known for expensive shopping. The latest reports say it’ll open in November, right as shoppers are preparing for the chilly months ahead. 101 Wooster Street, Soho

Thakoon

Now that it’s under new ownership, one of the brand’s major changes will be to open its first retail outpost. Along with a revamped website, the flagship will be the exclusive home to Thakoon clothing. The label is planning to open in September so that it can employ the see-now-buy-now model following its return to New York Fashion Week’s runways. Address TBA, Soho

Stone Island

Canada Goose isn’t the only high-end outerwear brand headed to Soho this year. The Italian-based Stone Island is converting its pop-up shop into a full-fledged flagship for its tech-heavy men’s jackets and apparel. When this was originally announced, the brand was aiming to open "in the third quarter" of this year. 41 Greene St, Soho

Yogasmoga

Yogasmoga is one of those activewear brands that people just get obsessed with, thanks to its superior fit and longevity (not to mention its philanthropic angle). Its first Manhattan store will be right next to Italian menswear brand Boglioli, and should be open within the next couple of months. 10 Bond St, Noho

Familiar Names in Fresh Locations

Saks Fifth Avenue

The anchor tenant of Brookfield Place is finally ready to join the rest of the stores that opened here as early as March 2015. The department store’s downtown version is set to debut on September 9th, right at the beginning of New York Fashion Week. 230 Vesey St, Financial District

Rick Owens

The avant-garde label has had its logo up in these windows right by Opening Ceremony since last fall, so it’s likely that we’ll see its debut before the end of the year. 32 Howard St, Soho

Coach

The American brand is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a huge new Fifth Avenue store, conveying that it wants to be more than just an outlet brand. It’s likely that it’ll open by the end of the year, but a debut date has yet to be disclosed. 685 Fifth Avenue, Midtown

Dolce & Gabbana

It’s been nearly a year and a half since this huge store was first announced, but it’s chugging along slowly but surely — just a couple months ago, it showed up on a local community board agenda applying for a liquor license. A time frame for opening hasn’t been announced, though. 155 Mercer St, Soho

Reviving the Rivalry?

Nike

As athleisure begins to look less like a trend and more like an era, the biggest names in the activewear game are stepping up their retail presences in New York City. Nike long ago signed a lease for 529 Broadway, and the new building that replaced stores like Baked by Melissa and Kiosk is just about complete. It’s not guaranteed that the store will open this year, but the brand is likely looking to make a return on its pricy investment sooner rather than later. 529 Broadway, Soho

Adidas

And right around the corner, Adidas is working on a new storefront on Spring Street that looks pretty close to being ready. The brand revealed neither whether it’ll be tailored to special collections or if it’ll replace the Originals store over on Wooster Street (cool garage storefront and all). Adidas is also planning to open on Fifth Avenue at some point in the future. 115 Spring St, Soho

A Triumphant Return

Dolce Vita

After closing up on Elizabeth Street two years ago, the affordable footwear label owned by Steve Madden is coming back. The company’s taking a full building in Soho for offices and a 3,000 square-foot store that’s expected to open before the end of this year. 53 Mercer St, Soho
