Staten Island Won't Get Its Outlet Mall Until Late 2017

While sussing out what stores we're most excited to see this year, we came across an important discovery: Empire Outlets is not one of them. The Staten Island outlet mall that was first announced in 2013 looks to have been a bit too ambitious with that Black Friday 2016 opening date, since their website now says that it'll debut in November 2017 (whether it'll open on the shopping holiday is not specified).

An extra year will give the mall a bit more time to fill up its roster, which currently includes Nordstrom Rack and mall-type outlets like Gap, Banana Republic, and Guess, plus a non-outlet H&M. Outside of shopping, there will also be a hotel, restaurants, a fancy food hall, and a massive Ferris wheel.

Late 2017 will put Empire Outlets in line with some of New York City's other major debuts, namely the Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus in Manhattan that are both scheduled for 2018.
