The Rachel Comey sample sale kicked off this morning inside St. Patrick's Youth Center gymnasium at 270 Mulberry Street. We stopped by the preview last night to check out the merch, and the short version is: it's really good. Mostly because of the amount of shoes, but we'll get to that in a bit.
In the center of the gym, you'll find racks and racks and racks of shoes. Everything is arranged according to size (if you wear an 8 or a 9, you'll find the best selection), which includes ankle boots ($145), tall and snow boots ($175), heels ($130), mules, clogs, and wedges ($140), oxfords ($125), sneakers ($130), plus sandals and flats ($115). The sample shoes are lined up along the left side of the wall, also according to size, go for $100, or three pairs for $350.
Along the back of the gym, you'll find racks full of past season clothing, doubling as a makeshift fitting room, grouped by item: jumpsuits ($160), blouses ($115), jersey T-shirts and tanks ($80), non-jersey tops ($100), dresses ($175), coats ($250), jackets and blazers ($195), knits ($115), non-denim pants ($130), denim pants ($115), shorts ($90), and skirts ($130). On the right side of the gym, there are shelves of accessories, like handbags and fur beanies, as well as swimwear.
Rachel Comey's picks and one-of-a kind pieces are also along the right side of the gym, and the pricing for these items is a little bit higher. Jumpsuits, dresses, and leather ready-to-wear are $200, tops are $135, pants are $150, coats are $375, jackets and blazers are $250, knits are $150, shoes are $160, and accessories are $200 — start here after you hit up that massive shoe selection.
