The Hood By Air Sample Sale Is Very Heavy on Tee Shirts

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Hood By Air's sample sale is back on and in full swing at 44 Hester Street today. We stopped by just as doors opened at 11am to find a line of about 20 or so people already waiting. The venue is tiny, so just ten people are being let in to shop at a time. If you're a regular person who aspires to dress like a street style star, this is the sale for you.

Once you get inside, expect to find seven racks of apparel (plus shelves for shoes) that are each designated by price. We found racks of button-down shirts ($150), outerwear, grommets, astronaut, and mesh pieces ($300), long-sleeved shirts ($110), short-sleeved tee shirts ($80), and sweats ($150). Knits, collapsible styles, sweatpants and sweatshirts, and denim are all $200 apiece.

Tee shirts were more prevalent than anything else, and they came with a variety of embellishments: glitter, logos, graphics, and zippers. In other words, these shirts are not for the faint of heart.

It's worth noting most of the items appeared to be for men, though we noticed that "Rack Five" had three dresses and two bodysuits (both $200). We overheard one of the sales associates say that she would be wearing one of the sweatshirts as a dress.

There is also a good selection of accessories, like jewelry for $20. As for shoes, styles that hit around the ankle are $200, while taller styles that creep up the calf toward the knee are $300. Click through the gallery above to see a few photos of items offered.

The sale runs through Sunday, March 6th; check out the Dealfeed below for more details.
