More Details Emerge About Barneys in Chelsea, Including an Opening Date

It looks like we're only weeks away from from the debut — or reemergence, rather — of Barneys in Chelsea. The department store said today that it's expecting to open the doors to its highly anticipated location in mid-February, and also gave detailed a floor-by-floor breakdown of what you'll find across its five levels and approximately 55,000 square feet (which is about a quarter of the Madison Avenue store's footprint).

Starting from the top, the fourth floor will have personal shopping suites, and the third floor will house men's apparel and footwear and a Freds restaurant (with a different menu than uptown's, focused on small plates). Women's clothes and shoes will be on the second floor, while the ground floor will be dedicated to bags, leather goods, and accessories for both men and women, as well as women's fine jewelry. Finally, the lower level will hold all things beauty, including cosmetic counters and a men's barbershop operated by Blind Barber, which has locations in the East Village and Williamsburg.

Every floor will be connected by a giant spiral staircase that'll look something like this:

Those steeped in department store history already know that founder Barney Pressman started his business on this block (but not this exact address, which was most recently home to Loehmann's) back in 1923; the shop remained here for more than seven decades before moving uptown. Barneys previously operated a co-op store in the neighborhood as well, which housed the warehouse sale in its better days.

Expect a ton of fanfare around its grand opening, including window displays with Bruce Weber photographs and capsule collections from the likes of Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler.
