When the Google's "Glass" glasses appeared on the DVF runway earlier this week, confusing attendees as well as ">fashion journalists, Diane von Furstenberg said it was part of a documentary project. Which left everyone just as confused. But at the 92Y Fashion Icons talk with Fern Mallis last night, DVF described how it all came about:
I saw [Sergey] this summer and he was wearing this bar and it has a little square and I said, 'What is that?' and he took me behind a tree (because he didn't want anyone to see) and he gave it to me and it's pretty amazing. It has a small screen and you can tap on the temple and it's a computer you can do all kinds of things. You can take pictures and you can film. And then we talked about something else, and he says 'Oh I've never been to a fashion show' and I said, 'Oh you should come to my show on September 9th.' And then a few weeks later he called me and he said you know we should do something with the Glass and a fashion show.
Now, the fruits of the plan that started behind a tree are revealed: a short film capturing the event from the point of view of models, makeup artists, spectators, and DVF herself. Check it out after the jump.
